Bleached - 10/24

The NTC debut of BLEACHED! Featuring Jessica and Jennifer Clavin, formerly of Mika Miko. 7″ out now on Art Fag Records - openers TBA. $7

If you swept up all the vegan muffin crumbs and other detritus from the Smell’s floor, combined it with some sawdust from a dirtbag country bar where Merle Haggard once drunkenly two-stepped, and then threw in some tangy candy bits only found at a little corner store around the way from where Joey Ramone’s grandmother lived, you’d have something like Bleached, a new band from Jessica and Jennifer Clavin, formerly of L.A. outlaw lady band Mika Miko.

On their upcoming 7″, to be released July 19 on Art Fag Records, the sisters establish their dirty bandanna sound with two tracks: “Think of You” and B-side “You Take Time.” Both songs are a departure from Jennifer’s other gig playing disaffected keys in the gothy project Cold Cave, or Jessica’s more local adventures in L.A. band Cold Showers.

“Think of You” is about two and a half minutes of junkyard bliss, the kind of sundazed laziness that should be playing in the mind of Cherie Currie when she’s whipping up one of her chainsaw-art creations. “You Take Time” is a sweeter affair, something like a bruised peach with a juicy center and a nice little frazzle of a guitar riff gluing it all together.
